Importing a Vendor Quote into the BOM
Drop a distributor quote PDF (ADI, Anixter, Wesco) into a project and FieldMarkup reads the line items into your Bill of Materials, so you don't retype part numbers and prices.
Overview
If you have a quote from a distributor, you can import it straight into a project's Bill of Materials instead of typing every line. FieldMarkup reads the part numbers, quantities, and prices off the PDF.
Which quotes work
Today the importer reads quotes from ADI, Anixter (US), and Anixter Canada / Wesco. It detects which format you dropped in automatically. Other vendors may work if their layout is similar, but those three are the ones we test against.
How to import
Open a project, go to the BOM tab, and find the Import to BOM box. Drop your quote PDF in, or click to pick a file. FieldMarkup reads it and shows a preview of every line it found: part number, description, quantity, unit price, and extended price. Check the preview against the paper before you commit anything.
Confirm and save
When the preview looks right, click to add the items to your BOM. There is a checkbox to save a copy of the quote PDF into the project's Documents, so you keep the source on file. The imported parts also land in your Parts Library so you can reuse them on future jobs.
If something looks off
You can edit any value right in the BOM after import. If the whole quote fails to read, the importer will tell you. The most common cause is a scanned image with no text layer, so grab a text-based PDF from the distributor's portal rather than a photo of a printout.
