Security camera symbols and field-of-view cones
The symbols a low-voltage drawing uses for cameras, readers, detectors and horns, and what the wedge coming off a camera means. All 145 are the real symbols from the FieldMarkup icon library.
A field-of-view cone is the wedge drawn from a camera showing roughly what it can see: the direction it faces, how wide the lens covers, and how far out the useful image reaches. On a plan it answers the only question anyone asks in a walkthrough, which is whether the doorway is covered. A 90 degree cone is the usual starting point for a fixed lens; wide-angle runs 100 to 130 degrees, a tight lens 30 to 60, and a fisheye sees all 360 so it gets a circle rather than a wedge.
How to read a cone
- Direction. The point of the wedge sits on the camera; the wedge opens the way the camera is aimed.
- Angle. How wide the wedge spreads is the lens coverage, in degrees.
- Reach. How far the wedge extends is where the picture stops being useful for the job, not the furthest thing the sensor can register.
- No cone at all. Omnidirectional devices do not get one. A smoke detector, a door contact and a fisheye camera cover everything around them, so a wedge would be a lie.
