Grid, Snap, and Alignment
Keep devices and shapes lined up. Turn on the grid to snap positions to a spacing you choose, and use Snap to lock lines to 45-degree angles and shapes to clean squares and circles.
Overview
Two tools keep a plan tidy: Grid and Snap. Both live in the top toolbar, over on the right next to the zoom controls. Grid is about position (where things sit). Snap is about angle and shape (how lines and boxes are drawn). You can use either on its own or both together.
The grid
Click Grid to open its menu, then check Show + snap to grid to turn it on. A faint grid appears over your plan, and anything you place or drag lands on the nearest grid line instead of floating a hair off.
Pick a spacing in the same menu. Tighter spacing gives you finer control; wider spacing keeps things on a coarser layout. When the grid is on, the button shows the spacing next to it, for example Grid · 12pt. Uncheck the box any time to turn it off. Your existing work stays exactly where it is.
The Snap tool
Click Snap to toggle it on. The button highlights and shows · 90°. While Snap is on:
- Straight lines snap to the nearest 45-degree angle, so walls and wire runs stay level or cleanly diagonal.
- Rectangles snap to perfect squares.
- Ellipses snap to perfect circles.
On a computer you can hold Shift to flip it for one shape: if Snap is on, Shift lets you draw freely just that once; if it is off, Shift snaps just that shape. On a tablet, use the button.
When to use which
Turn on both when you want a clean, square, aligned drawing, handy on a blank canvas or when sketching walls. Leave both off for freehand placement where you want devices exactly where you tap.
