Exporting a Marked-Up PDF

How to export a clean, flattened PDF with your devices, FOV cones, status colors, and an optional device schedule appendix.

The flattened export. Devices, FOV cones, status colors, NAC loops, and callouts all baked in. Click to zoom.

What gets exported

When you export, FieldMarkup takes your original floor plan PDF and bakes ("flattens") all your annotations into it. The result is a standard PDF that anyone can open. No special software needed.

The export includes:

  • Device icons: every camera, reader, sensor, and custom device you placed, with their label badges (C1, CR2, SD3).
  • FOV cones: translucent colored wedges showing camera coverage, printed at 25% opacity.
  • Status rings: the colored circle around each device showing its install status.
  • Shapes and annotations: rectangles (solid, dashed, and cloud outlines), ellipses, lines, arrows, text callouts with numbered punch-list badges.
  • Freehand ink: any pen strokes you drew.
  • Door groups: tether lines, outer rings, and D1/D2 pin labels.
  • NAC loop wiring: dashed polylines connecting fire notification devices with EOL markers.
  • Floorplan walls and openings: wall segments, door swings, windows, and overhead doors (if drawn on a blank canvas).
  • Brand logo: your company logo, if you've uploaded one and toggled "Show logo" on the markup.

Not exported: Count/tally marks (those are a private review aid and never appear on customer-facing PDFs).

How to export

  1. Open the markup in the editor.
  2. Click the Export button in the toolbar.
  3. Optionally toggle the appendix options:
    • Device Schedule: appends a landscape page listing every device by Door, ID, Type, Notes, Location, Status, and Page number. Sorted by category, with alternating row stripes for easy scanning.
    • Punch List: appends a page listing every numbered text callout in order, with the note text next to each badge. Hand this to the GC as a punch-list summary.
  4. Click Download. The PDF downloads to your device.

Multi-page exports

If your markup has multiple pages (a multi-floor plan set), all pages are included in the export. Each page carries its own annotations. The device schedule at the end lists devices from all pages with a "Page" column so the reader knows which floor each device is on.

Handing it off

The exported PDF is designed for two audiences:

  • The customer: the marked-up plan with FOV cones and the device schedule give them a clear picture of what they're getting. Email it as a proposal attachment or print it for a sit-down review.
  • The install crew: the device labels on the plan match the device schedule, so a tech can find C4 on the plan and look up its model, location, and notes on the schedule page. Print it and put it on the clipboard.
